How to Make a Belt in a Cinch

You're wondering about that picture. It doesn't have anything to do with anything, I just took it one morning and thought it was super cool, but had nowhere to put it.

Now we'll transition from that into what this post is actually about.

I woke up this morning (see it all comes full circle) for work and decided I needed a belt. For some reason I thought it'd be a good idea to get rid of all but one of my belts some time ago. So I have one belt. Which is fine most of the time. However, this one belt does not do anything for my high-waisted pants.

So I desperately needed a belt for work this morning.

It was a necessity.

I searched through my sewing box for anything that I could use to keep my pants doing that uncomfortable slouching thing that, although does seem to be a popular style right now, is not something I particularly enjoy. The only thing I could locate in my search was some 3/4” wide elastic that just so happened to perfectly encircle my waist with just a bit of overlap. I pinned it together with a couple safety pins and basically it worked perfectly.

I used two safety pins. One larger one for the middle and one to go on the inside of the “belt” for the other floppy end.

As a kid, did you ever have those belts that had those super confusing clips on them that had to be threaded a certain way in order to clasp, but they were made of an elastic band? That's what this reminded me of.

All this just to say, just think outside of the box sometimes and you can come up with some ingenious ways to solve your problems.
